The big seaworthy dive cruiser ‘Thorfinn’ departs on another
set of ‘Oceanic Dreams’ cruises through the Pacific’s most traditional and culturally
intact islands during June 2007.
Two 14 day cruises between Truk
and Yap states of the FSM feature a departure from Truk on the 2nd of June 2007
and from Yap on the 16th of June 2007.
The outer island atolls of Truk's
Western Islands, and the Neighboring Islands of Yap abound with the pristine beauty
and isolation of Oceania. Each island awaits our visits with welcoming anticipations
and are ready to show on board guests the magic and wonders that hold these people
to their distant shores so far removed from the intense bustle of a modern world.
The culture and history of these island people is only matched by nature's extravagance
of magnificent reef life and waters unknown to regular divers visiting busy island
capitals.
Island names such as Pulap Atoll, Puluwat Atoll, Pulusuk, Satawal,
Pikelot, West Fayu Atoll, Lamotrek Atoll, Olimarao Atoll, Eauripik Atoll, Ifalik
Atoll, Sorol Atoll, Ulithi Atoll and Ngulu Atoll, and near countless others are
all ready to welcome our very occasional visits when choosing to include them
in our 6 to 8 island and reef visits on each tour in both east and west directions.
Each tour features a selection of these sites with varying stays based
on guest involvement and related interests.
Visits primarily focus on underwater
interests, but will include social interfacing at many sites, requiring conformity
to local traditions and customs. Many islands will have displays of local dancing
and crafts. Some locations forbid power boats, relying entirely on big carved
sailing canoes. A ride on a big ocean sailing canoe will surpass most visitor's
dreams. Sharks, manta rays, turtles and millenniums of fish life are seen in profusion,
especially at exposed and uninhabited locations.
Various islands have WWII
artifacts above and below their lagoon waters. Japanese war planes, U.S. bombers,
defense guns, buildings and an abandoned lighthouse, old aircraft runways, and
shipwrecks exist at several sites.
These dream cruises exceed near
all expectations for connoisseurs of fine dive travel.
Please note these
trips now operate as charters with a minimum number of 15 guests per voyage required
to offset current extreme fuel costs.
